Tasks & To-dos
CaseBright has two related but distinct concepts for tracking work items:
- Case Tasks — steps from a case workflow that are assigned to you (surfaced from cases you're working on)
- To-dos — lightweight, standalone reminders or action items that aren't tied to a specific case step
Navigate to Tasks in the left sidebar.
1. Case Tasks (My Assigned Steps)
The Tasks view surfaces all open case steps that are assigned to you (or your team, depending on your filter), pulling directly from your active cases.
Default view
By default, you see steps with status Pending — steps that are waiting on a client or third party. You can change the filter to show steps in other statuses.
Filters available
| Filter | Options |
|---|---|
| Status | Not Started, In Progress, Pending, Done, Cancelled |
| Assigned to | Me, a specific team member |
| Created by | Filter by who created the step assignment |
| Case | Filter to a specific case |
| Due date | Overdue, today, this week, custom range |
Taking action on a task
Click any task row to open the full case step detail. From there you can:
- Change the step status
- Add a note
- Update the due date
- Reassign to another team member
2. To-dos
To-dos are personal or team reminders. They are not attached to a workflow step — they're freeform action items.
Creating a to-do
- Click New To-do (or the + button).
- Enter a title and optional description.
- Optionally assign it to a team member.
- Set a due date if relevant.
- Click Save.
Completing a to-do
Click the checkbox next to the to-do to mark it done. Completed to-dos move to the bottom of the list (or can be filtered out).
Editing and deleting
Click the three-dot menu on any to-do to edit the details or delete it.
3. Tips
- Use case tasks to keep track of what needs to happen next on your active files.
- Use to-dos for quick reminders like "Call client back" or "Check for RFE response" that don't map to a formal workflow step.
- Filter by due date: today to quickly see your daily workload.
